GEYZING: Incessant rain of Monday night has wreaked havoc in Daramdin constituency in West Sikkim. The rainfall triggered landslides in different parts of the constituency, damaging number of houses at Buriakhop leaving some families homeless.
Houses of Kul Bahadur Gurung, J.K. Gurung and Indra Bahadur Gurung have been completely damaged in the landslides. Similarly, house of Dhan Bahadur Gurung of Dodak was damaged.
Fortunately, no human casualty has been reported so far.
Many families have lost their seasonal crops in the heavy rain and landslides. Several are spending sleepless nights as their houses constructed on the rugged and mountainous slopes are vulnerable to slides.
As a precautionary measure, 23 families from different parts of Daramdin constituency have been shifted to relief camp set up by the concerned department.
The landslides have also taken a toll on vehicular movement.
Roads in different parts of the constituency were blocked making the constituency completely isolated from rest of the State for entire day today.  
Area MLA D.N. Sherpa along with Soreng SDM Gias Pegha, BDOs and Disaster Management officials today visited the affected areas and took stock of the situation.
The MLA assured that the affected families will be provided with compensation as per the norms of the government.
