GANGTOK, May 12: A daylong programme
for school and college students aimed at
sensitizing them on a number of key
issues affecting their lives was held
here today.
A “College Ambassadors for Peace”
appointment programme as well as a
“Student for Peace Awareness programme”
was part of the day’s function.
The programme was held today at the
auditorium of Sikkim Government College
here at Tadong in the presence of the
Minister of the State Human Resource
Development Department, GM Gurung.
Jointly organized by Collegiate
Association for the Research of
Principles (CARP), Sikkim Chapter along
with All Sikkim Students Union (ASSU),
the main idea behind the programme was
to aware and sensitize the students on
moral based value education including
character build up, social crime,
health, HIV-AIDS, amongst others.
School prefects from all secondary and
senior secondary schools from across the
State took part in the programme.
While stating that that youth played an
important role in the society, the chief
guest in his address, stressed on the
need of social organisations to imbibe
the values of ethics and morality. He
also appreciated the initiative of the
organizing team.
The President of ASSU said that the
Union, ever since its formation, has
been involved in addressing the problems
of the students and also organizing
several education based activities.
Dr CL Pradhan, a neuro-psychiatrist
dealt on high priority issues like
suicides and depression. Krishna Bahadur
Adhikari from Nepal and Gum Bin Hwang
from South Korea also addressed the
gathering.
Also present on the occasion were MLA
Nimthit Lepcha, Principal of Sikkim
Government SK Pradhan, Dean Suman
Pradhan and representatives from ASSU.
Later in the programme, the chief guest
handed over certificates to the school
captains, who were appointed peace
ambassadors. |
