DARAP,: Alpine Sporting Club pulled off a major upset Monday on the fifth day of Khangchendzonga Shield 2022 as they shocked guest team Nepal Police Club by five wickets in a pulsating Group A match at Mining.

Besides earning three crucial points, Alpine SC also became the first team to beat superior guest teams in the A Division men’s cricket tournament

Since the second edition of the tournament in 2021, SICA has involved two guest teams – Nepal Police Club and Rajasthan Club, Kolkata - to provide the local teams with very much-needed experience and exposure of facing highly tough teams.

Chasing 237 for a win in 40 overs, the Alpine SC overcame a sluggish start to overhaul the target in the 37the over.

The winner of the inaugural season of the tournament in 2020, Alpine SC batted with steely resolve to eke out a sensational victory, riding on Manisankar Murasingh’s century and crucial contributions from Ashish Thapa (58) and Amit Rajera (37).

Earlier, Alpine bowlers restricted Nepal side to 236/7 in 40 overs with Rajera (3/37) being pick of the bowlers.
