GANGTOK,: The All Sikkim Adhoc Teachers & Temporary Employees Association on Wednesday appealed the protesting adhoc teachers to withdraw their dharna and come forward for a dialogue with the State government.
Addressing a press meet here, association executive member Rajesh Dahal and advisor Ashish Lepcha shared the State government is working to addressing the long pending demands of the adhoc teachers.
“We had struggled for many years and had launched a movement for the adhoc teachers during our time but unfortunately, the previous government did not even bother to listen to our demands. The new government, within two and half years, has taken the initiative to address the long pending demands of the adhoc teachers like continuous service for eight years and after eight years, regularization for the adhoc teachers,” said the association members.
A section of adhoc teachers are on a dharna and hunger strike since last week near East DAC complex, Sichey over service extension and appointment issues.
“Dharna is a democratic right but ultimately, dialogue is important for arriving at a solution. We appeal the adhoc teachers who are on the dharna and hunger strike to withdraw their protest and come forward for a dialogue with the government. We will act as a bridge between them and the government for the talks. The government is also willing to listen to them. Let’s find a solution together,” said the association.
The association also appealed the protesting adhoc teachers to sit for the interviews for adhoc teachers’ appointments to be conducted by the State government from next month onwards. Interviews have to be conducted for these posts as everyone must get equal opportunity but the government has also said weightage would be given to the experience of the candidates, said the association.
