Chamling assures SDF’s support to Bhaichung on Nepali seat restoration and ILP implementation demands

GANGTOK,: Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) president Bhaichung Bhutia on Monday called on SDF president and former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling at SDF Bhawan here over the recent Supreme Court verdict and present unrest in Sikkim.

As per the press releases issued by both the parties, the SDF president and the HSP president discussed the issue of “persons of foreign origin” tag for the Sikkimese Nepali community and state of “anarchy, violence and unrest” in Sikkim that has been ignited by the recent Supreme Court Judgement.

Discussing the seriousness of both these issues, Chamling and Bhaichung agreed that everyone must work together, keeping aside political ambitions.

The former Chief Minister assured Bhaichung about SDF’s full support in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly if the government brings bills to restore the Sikkimese Nepali seat reservation and the implementation of ILP in Sikkim.

Chamling said that the SDF party always has and always will stand for the people of Sikkim and will never let divisive forces succeed in creating anarchy and unrest in Sikkim.

Both leaders committed themselves to protect and preserve the distinct identity of Sikkim and Sikkimese people and to restore and peace and tranquillity in Sikkim back again, the SDF release states.

A HSP press release informs that Bhaichung was meeting Chamling and leaders of political parties and key stakeholders to seek support on the demands of HSP for Nepali seat restoration and ILP implementation. Both these political demands can be resolved only in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, the party said.

Bhaichung also met the Joint Action Council (JAC) functionaries and handed them a letter seeking JAC’s support on the HSP's demands.
