Conclave at Gangtok to brainstorm entrepreneurship in Sikkim

GANGTOK,: A two-day entrepreneurs’ conclave is being hosted by Sikkim Chronicle at Gangtok on May 29 and 30 to understand the various aspects, potential and challenges of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in Sikkim.

In recent days, particularly after Covid pandemic of two years, Sikkim has witnessed some major shifts in terms of employment and self-employment opportunities. Despite various odds and challenges, the local entrepreneurs are coming to the forefront with various innovative ideas and inventions resulting in success stories at various levels. The upcoming conclave aims to have conversations on an entrepreneurship ecosystem in Sikkim with participation of local stakeholders including the policy makers.

“The tiny Himalayan State of Sikkim in recent days has seen a major boost in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. To create a healthy ecosystem for entrepreneurs, many young minds, organisations and policy makers are striving to delve into the subject. Sikkim at present has seen the booming numbers of entrepreneurs working in diverse sectors, thus the event will be the first of its kind in Sikkim where entrepreneurs and stakeholders will come on a single platform to talk about various issues pertaining to entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in Sikkim,” said Sikkim Chronicle co-founder Yougan Tamang.

The two-day event at Hotel Ramada by Wyndham, Deorali will have keynote address, panel discussions and networking opportunities. The sector-wise panel discussion will have speakers from tourism industry, agro-industry, media, IT, education, fashion, films and entertainment, health & wellness and digital content creation. The event shall witness the participation of entrepreneurs, policy makers, government officials, media professionals and students.

The Sikkim Chronicle Entrepreneurs’ Conclave is the presentation of Travels Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS), co-organised by Sikkim Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (SEED) Cell in partnership with Atal Incubation Centre Sikkim Manipal University Business Incubation Foundation (AIC SMU TBI Foundation) and Sushma Productions, and powered by Ramada by Wyndham Gangtok Hotel and Casino Golden and co-powered by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited.

TAAS president Sonam Norgay Lachungpa recorded that Sikkim in recent days is doing excellent on startups and entrepreneurship.

“The State’s prime revenue depends on the tourism industry thus this conclave will also have a thorough discussion on the opportunities within the industry and the means to work with various other startups and entrepreneurs to further boom the tourism industry. Two exclusive panel sessions in the conclave will be dedicated to tourism which shall have stakeholders talk, discuss on the odds, challenges and solutions of the emerging tourism industry of Sikkim. TAAS is proud to associate and partner with the event. We are here to support and build a viable entrepreneurship ecosystem in Sikkim”, he said.

The event is also being supported by SIKKIM EXPRESS, EastMojo, Northeast Live, Karma groups, Lagstal Studio, Suyen groups, Footprints Holidays, The Eight Story, ITS Fibernet, Roosh Productions, Demarg Advertisers, Young Indians Sikkim Chapter and Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management, Hyderabad.

“SEED is co-organising the entrepreneur conclave with Sikkim Chronicle because we want to reach out to the global audience through the media platform and highlight the initiatives of the present government, and the progressive policies framed for the entrepreneurship growth in Sikkim. Through the media platform we also want to share various stories of entrepreneurs and their individual and collective growth”, said co-organiser SEED Cell.

Sushma Productions founder Sushma Gurung calls the conclave the need of an hour. “When the entrepreneurship is taking a huge leap to strengthen the economy of State the conclave like such will surely help us understand the various pertaining issues of entrepreneurships in the State. The conclave will also have through discussion on films, media, entertainment and fashion which have never been discussed on any platforms through entrepreneurship prism before, thus I am looking forward to the event,” she said.

The only incubation centre in Sikkim, Atal Incubation Centre Sikkim Manipal University Technology Business Incubation Foundation (AICSMUTBI) is also partnering with the conclave.

“We are interested to include the excluded, strengthen the included and also deepen and widen the pursuit of startups and entrepreneurs who are working in the State of Sikkim. Thus through this conclave we want to help one in the entrepreneurship journey,” said foundation CEO Dr Tej Chingtham while speaking on the conclave.
