GANGTOK,: Education minister K.N. Lepcha attended the North-East Education Ministers’ meeting on Saturday at Guwahati. The meeting was chaired by Union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a press release informs.
The meeting was attended by the Education ministers of all the North-Eastern States in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
During the conference of the North-Eastern Education ministers later in the afternoon, minister K.N. Lepcha mentioned about the achievements of the Government of Sikkim in the education sector. He also raised certain issues related to the central support in education sector and requested the central government to sanction more support towards Samagra Shiksha, School Education, RUSA and Higher Education sectors.
While speaking during the conference, Lepcha highlighted upon the initiatives of Sikkim like launching of NIPUN Sikkim, the Sikkim Chapter of NIPUN Bharat to achieve foundational literacy and numeracy at primary level from nursery to class 3 in the age group of 3 to 9 years. He also mentioned about the progress made by Sikkim towards implementing the National Education Policy, 2020, the release mentions.
During the meeting, the Union Education minister congratulated Sikkim for having performed much better in different verticals of the department which are much higher in the North-East and also some of them are much better than the national average.
In the North-Eastern Educational Conclave, additional chief secretary (Education) G.P. Upadhyaya participated in the session for higher education.
State project director (Samagra Shiksha) and Elementary Education director Bhim Thatal participated in the discussion for school education and implementation of the NEP, 2020, the release mentions.
