DARJEELING: The lockdown in civic areas of GTA along with those areas which have reported Covid-19 cases have been extended by seven more days. The lockdown was to end on Saturday.
Looking at the increase in Covid cases along with deaths being reported, it was decided today that the lockdown in GTA municipal areas and other places which have Covid cases would be extended by seven more days, said GTA chairman Anit Thapa.
The decision was taken in a meeting with the Darjeeling district magistrate and GTA principal secretary.
According to Thapa, a Covid positive person from Sonada area had passed away yesterday.
Sources inform that the 74-year-old had fever and was taken to Darjeeling hospital where he tested positive for coronavirus. He passed away while being taken to the Covid hospital at Tribeni.
Thapa informed that eight more persons in Kurseong subdivision have tested positive for Covid-19.
Lockdown is for the municipality areas of Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Mirik and Kurseong and the rural areas which have Covid-19 cases.
Two more Covid-19 positive cases were reported from Kalimpong subdivision.
