LT seat reservation solution needs to be sought within Article 371F ambit: Passang

SE Report
GANGTOK: Socio-political activist Passang Sherpa has maintained that the solution for reservation of Assembly seats for the tribal Limboo and Tamang communities of Sikkim should be sought within the ambit of Article 371F. He was commenting on the statement made by LokSabha MP Indra Hang Subba at the Parliament on Monday.
Subba had raised the demand for Limboo-Tamang seat reservation in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly during the zero hour of LokSabha.
“It is unfortunate on the part of LokSabha MP Indra Hang Subba to advocate seat reservation for Limboo and Tamang communities as per Article 332 of the Constitution of India. As an MP, he should be aware that Article 332 is not applied in the state of Sikkim,” Passang in a press statement on Tuesday.
“The solution for Limboo-Tamang seat reservation needs to be sought within the ambit of Article 371F.  Such blatant advocacy of Article 332 will not just delay seat reservation for Limboo-Tamang communities but can jeopardise the special status of Sikkim and its people guaranteed under Article 371F,” Passang maintained.
Passang is also the coordinator of ‘I am 371F campaign’.
“Either it is the ignorance of MP Indra Hang Subba or it can be a conspiracy hatched by SKM-BJP alliance to do away Article 371F. If it is out of ignorance, he should withdraw his statement immediately from the Parliament. If not, Sikkimese people should be vigilant against such conspiracy and unitedly oppose such illegal move of SKM-BJP alliance to harm the special status enshrined under Article 371F of the Constitution of India,” said Passang.
