Prabhakar Golay appointed West District Cricket Committee president

GANGTOK, : Prabhakar Golay, son of Chief Minister P.S. Golay, was on Monday unanimously elected president of West District Cricket Committee (WDCC).
After being elected as the head of the district committee, Prabhakar promised to work sincerely for the development of cricket in West Sikkim. He, along with new honorary secretary Samir Tewari, also committed to revamp the district committee at the earliest, informs a press release.
Likewise, the meeting held at Pelling, chaired by Sikkim Cricket Association (SiCA) president Lobzang G. Tenzing and co-chaired by treasurer Naresh Kumar Agarwal, elected Ugen Palzor Bhutia as the vice president, Abishek Pandey and Dir Bir Subba as the joint secretaries and Chandan Kumar Gupta as the treasurer.
The SiCA president, in his address, stressed on building a strong district body.
“The transparency and efficiency of SiCA has been recognised by one and all and it is the duty and responsibility of the younger generation to take it forward with pride,” said Tenzing.
Congratulating the new president of the district committee, Tenzing stated that Prabhakar’s contribution to sports in Sikkim cannot be ignored. Prabhakar is one of the founder members of Sikkim Aakraman Football Club, one of the biggest football clubs in Sikkim.
SiCA is honoured to work with new and young team of WDCC, added Tenzing.
The president also thanked the adhoc committee, sponsors and dignitaries of west district for supporting SICA and expressed hope that they will continue to support development of cricket in the district.
“The government headed by Chief Minister P.S. Golay has been more than supportive for cricket development in the State. The personal care and attention given by the Chief Minister for cricket development in the State is immensely encouraging for SiCA,” said Tenzing.
On the occasion, SiCA handed over two bowling machines for Soreng subdivision to the new district committee president.
The meeting was also attended by PHE chairman Hari Narayan Subedi, Chief Minister’s additional political secretary Madusudan Sharma, Garib Jan Kalyan Prakosta advisor Deepesh Bhandari and a host of dignitaries.
SiCA president Tenzing, during the day, also visited Kyongsa ground to oversee the ongoing SiCA cricket trials and coaching camp. Tenzing along with Agarwal and other members of SICA also visited the office of WDCC and sanctioned the rent and office furniture for WDCC, the release mentions.
