Restoration works begin at Melli

NAMCHI,: Clearing of landslide debris and restoration works have started in the areas affected by Friday landslides at Melli, south district.
Various wards of Melli had sustained damages due to the multiple slides caused by incessant rains. The area was also cut-off as road formations were washed away.
The south district authorities had conducted an assessment of damage to public and private properties on Friday.
Concerned departments initiated the clearing and restoration work from Saturday morning.  The Education department is focussing on Melli secondary school while Urban Development department is doing clearance work at Melli bazaar and surrounding areas.
Priority is being given on restoring the damaged road stretches like Bikmat-Rateypani-Melli so that Melli is connected with rest of Sikkim soon.
There were no further landslide-related damages in South Sikkim on Saturday.
