SBS rural branches resume service

GANGTOK, : State Bank of Sikkim branches in different rural areas have resumed their services after the July 16 notification of ‘containing entire ward’ was partially modified on Sunday to micro-containment of the affected areas.
Many SBS branches in rural areas had been affected by the previous notification and remained closed. With the partial modification, operations of these affected SBS branches have resumed.
The entire ward or village was to be contained even if a single Covid case was detected, as per the previous notification. This was changed to micro-containment of the affected houses, in the latest order issued on Sunday.
Operations of SBS branches were affected as many fell in the contained wards in rural areas but now with the recent modified order, those branches have started their services, said SBS managing director P.W. Bhutia while speaking with SIKKIM EXPRESS on Tuesday.
So far, 38 employees of the SBS have been infected with Covid and they are presently in isolation. After recovering, they are to join their duty with a RTPCR negative certificate.
All our employees infected with Covid are recovering well, said Bhutia.
The SBS has taken several protective measures for the employees and customers visiting the bank at Gangtok or its branches.
“All the bank branches are sanitized once a week. In case of big branches, the sanitisation is done twice a week. We have closed the bank canteen. All our employees are given masks, face shields and their counters are protected using plastic frames. Health is wealth and we all must give it top priority,” said the SBS managing director.
The SBS is open for customers but we appeal them to visit the bank only when it is really important and follow all the Covid protocols, said Bhutia. He informed that the SBS has spent around Rs. 75 lakh for implementation of protective measures of all its branches and staff against the pandemic.
