GANGTOK, January 13: Two days after registering their first ever win in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Sikkim suffered an eight-wicket loss against a superior Bihar side today.
Batting first at SSN College Ground in Chennai, Sikkim managed only 110 runs in 20 overs which was chased down comfortably by Bihar.
Nilesh Lamichaney (24 runs) and Ashish Thapa (22) provided a good start to Sikkim with the opening partnership of 43 runs. Varun Sood was the highest scorer for the side with 28 runs. Taking advantage of the turning track, Bihar spinner Ashutosh Aman took four wickets.
Bihar went past the Sikkim total in 19.1 overs losing just two wickets.
Debutant Rajiv Malay Darjee for whom this was the first match for Sikkim team, in any format, was impressive with the ball. In his four overs, he took an important wicket of Mangal Mahrour and conceded just 22 runs.
Likewise, Mohammed Saptullah also made senior team debut today. Darjee, Saptullah and Mohammed Ronak, who made his debut against Mizoram in the rain-curtailed first match, were handed their caps today.
Sikkim will next face Nagaland at IC-Gurunanak College Ground, Chennai on January 15.
