Sikkim powerlifting team to participate in national championship

GANGTOK,: A 15-member team of Sikkim Power Lifting Association (SPLA) including two officials is all set to leave for the 30th National Men and Women Equipped and Classic Sub Junior, Junior, Senior and Masters Bench Press Championship 2021 to be held at Goa from November 16 to 20.
Addressing media, SPLA president G.N. Namchangcorpa thanked Chief Minister P.S. Golay for his encouragement to the association along with extending help in sending the Sikkimese contingent to the championship. He said power lifting is a great sport but this requires proper training to attain the targeted achievement by the athlete.
General secretary Devendra Basnet informed that selection trials for the championship were held recently wherein 22 participants had participated, out of which 15 were selected for the national championship.
The contingent consists of both male and female participants including masters.
Basnet informed that so far the Sikkim power lifters have not won a medal in national championship, but this time they are hopeful of getting at least 2-3 medals.
