SNPP always vocal for Article 371F protection: Delay Namgyal

The Sikkim National People’s Party (SNPP) today celebrated its 12th foundation day in a brief function here at a local hotel. It was chaired by Prem Goyal and had Moti Lal Bansal as the special guest.
In his address, SNPP president Delay Namgyal Barfungpa highlighted that the SNPP has always stood for the people of Sikkim. The SNPP has been registered with the Election Commission of India, he said adding that the SNPP came second in the 2019 bye-elections.
“SNPP has been always vocal when it comes to protection of Article 371F. The party is here for the welfare and upliftment of Sikkim and Sikkimese. We will appreciate the good works being done in the State and raise our voice if wrong things are done,” said Barfungpa.
The SNPP president reminded that during the 2019 Assembly elections, the SNPP had said Sikkimese should get free electricity, water, healthcare, good roads and quality education. These are the basic requirements that everyone looks forward to, he said.
Barfungpa appreciated the State government’s decision to establish a dedicated cancer hospital at Karfectar near Jorethang. He appealed the government to make use of the old STNM hospital land for a super-speciality healthcare centre. If the old STNM hospital space is used for any other purpose than a hospital, I will be the first one to protest against it, he said.
The SNPP president also commented on domicile certificate allegations surrounding Gangtok MLA Y.T. Lepcha. People have been approaching me over the issue. “To know the truth, our party member even filed an RTI to get the correct information. We have received two sets of reply from the concerned SDM and both are contradictory. Based on the RTI replies, we have filed an FIR and demand a high level independent inquiry,” he said.
“We have no opinion on whether the allegations levelled against the Gangtok MLA are true or false. We want an investigation is done so that matter is crystal clear and let the law take its own course after that,” said Barfungpa.
On future plans, the SNPP president mentioned that people have been demanding a State tour of the party. “However, we were unable to take up a State-wide tour due to the current pandemic situation. We will soon hold an executive meeting and plan our tour. We are thinking of starting the tour from starting of 2021,” he said.
On the occasion, Barfungpa remembered all the party members who were with the SNPP when it was formed in 2008. He also thanked all those who voted for the SNPP in the Assembly elections and bye-elections of 2019.
