Telegu action film nearing shoot completion in Sikkim with local actors in prominent roles

GANGTOK,: Mahendra Bagdas, a popular standup comedian from the hilly region, spent most of Sunday morning scowling and running villainously around Butruk helipad here.
An evil scar on his face had replaced its trademark ‘Bhanu Ra Pala’ smirk as Mahendra made a dozen sprints, alternatively boarding and de-boarding the STDC-operated chopper. He was shooting a scene for an upcoming Telugu film directed by M. Deenraj from Hyderabad and produced by Bharat American Creations.
Mahendra is sharing prime stage with a host of Sikkimese actors in the film in lead and other major roles, as per the film production team. The film is being made in three languages – Telegu, Hindi and Tamil.
“Actors from Sikkim are playing the main roles in this film. Though they are mostly first-timers, I found them perfect for the prominent characters for this action-patriotic film as per the script. They are very talented actors,” said film director M. Deenraj to SIKKIM EXPRESS.
Peden Ongmu Namgyal, Rajeswari Chakraborty, Sonam Barfungpa and Sowekcha Subba are playing the role of prominent characters in this action thriller.
Deenraj shared that the shooting experience in Sikkim has been excellent and progressively in a smooth manner. The locations are beautiful though the production team had to face the challenge of unpredictable weather, he said.
To a question, the director said the production team had previously thought of shooting either in Ladakh or Sikkim but then Sikkim was selected which saw casting of the local actors here.
“To come to Sikkim for shooting the film was the best decision made. I have already shared my experience of shooting here with my filmmaker friends in South and they are also preparing to come here. As for myself, I will come here again and again to shoot films,” said Deenraj.
Raj Situala, the line producer for the film informed that the film was also shot in Chalsa, Dooars in North Bengal for around 40-45 days.
“We started shooting from February 10 and have completed shooting in Chalsa, Rangpo and Singtam. We have few scenes left to shoot like here in Burtuk helipad and plan to wrap up in the next few days. The film is scheduled to have a world-wide release in October or November and will further boost the potential of Sikkim as a filmmaking destination,” said Sitaula.
Sitaula pointed out the Sikkimese actors getting prominent roles in the film of such quality and budget. “This is for the first time that so many Sikkimese actors are getting lead roles in a single film. Earlier I have seen our actors in supporting roles but here they are prominent characters in a single film. This will be one of the best action Telegu films and it has already created a buzz in Telegu film industry,” he said.
The film project also benefitted Mahendra Bagdas who was given the negative character role. He was found suitable for the villain’s role in the film by the director.
Speaking with SIKKIM EXPRESS, Mahendra shared that he came to know that he is a villain in the film only when the makeup team fixed up a barbwire scar running across his face.
“They called for me the first shoot at Teesta Dam. I had no idea about my role. They gave me this scar on my face and then I realized that it is a negative role. I can’t say for myself that I have done my role well but the director has been mentioning that I have acted well so far. I am very thankful to the film director and production team for giving me this opportunity,” said Mahendra.
The Kalimpong resident had done several plays and also acted in local films. It is his first time in a major production.
