Trishakti motorcycle expedition team reaches Gangtok, meets Governor


GANGTOK,: The 20-member motorcycle expedition team of Trishakti Corps of Indian Army upon reaching Gangtok called on Governor Ganga Prasad here at Raj Bhawan on Friday.

The team comprised of Indian Army, ITBP, Sashastra Seema Bal, Sikkim Police, Sikkim Tourism and Forest departments was sponsored by Royal Enfield and Indian Oil Corporation.

During the interaction, the Governor hailed the army’s dedicated service towards the nation due to which the citizens have attained faith in them helping them live a peaceful and secure life.

“Your sacrifice proves that you are the real heroes of the nation who despite all the odds are continuously working for the safety of the nation and its people”, said the Governor. He further congratulated the team on successful completion of the first half of their expedition and extended his best wishes for the remaining journey towards Lachung.

Major general Arvind Yadav, COS Trishakti Corps who is also leading the expedition informed that it is a part of Trishakti Shaurya Mahotsav organised in celebration of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ with a message 'Soldiers & Citizens - Together towards Strength & Prosperity’.

“Through this expedition we aim to bring in everyone under one banner who have contributed their share of service to the nation”, Yadav said.

He highlighted how the team has geared up to cross Dongkya La pass situated at the height of 18,600ft in North Sikkim and set a new record.

The expedition flagged off on June 15 from Sukna, West Bengal traversed through difficult hilly terrain via Rangpo, Rhenock, Dzuluk and Sherathang.

The team will head towards North Sikkim on Saturday and will travel towards their final destination Lachung valley which they have scheduled to reach by Monday.
