Sikkim girls return back in high spirits from
sub-junior national football championship |

GANGTOK, September 3: The Sikkim u-16 girls
football team players and officials have
expressed their sincere thanks to Sikkim
Football Association (SFA) for providing them an
opportunity to feature in the recently concluded
7th girls sub-junior national football
championships at Halwani, Uttarakhand.
“We like to extend our sincere thanks to SFA and
especially to general secretary Menla Ethanpa
and treasurer Raj Kumar Tirani for providing an
opportunity to play in the national level
tournament”, said coach Namgyal Bhutia.
The Sikkim girls had a wonderful outing in the
tournament by reaching up to quarterfinal round.
Apart from giving a commendable performance, two
players-Ash Maya Subba and Sujata Rai were
selected for the u-16 junior national football
camp which will be held at SAI hostel, Gandhi
Nagar, Gujarat. If they are selected, both will
be playing for India in international
tournaments, said Bhutia.
Commenting on the tournament, Bhutia said that
the tournament was a good opportunity for Sikkim
players. The players were selected from villages
and they performed very well, he said.
They have also received certificates from All
India Football Federation which of great value
and honour, said the coach. He said that the
Sikkim girls can win national level tournaments
in coming years.
Pema C Bhutia had accompanied the team as its
manager. The team returned back in good health
to Gangtok on September 1. |

TNA, Phoenix, Doly College and Lawrence in semis
of IPSC football tournament |

GANGTOK, September 3: The last four for the
Indian Public School Conference (IPSC) football
tournament being hosted by Tashi Namgyal Academy
(TNA) here at its playground has been finalized
after the first round matches ended today.
TNA, Lawrence School (Himachal Pradesh), Phoenix
Public School (Karnataka) and The Daly College (Indore)
are the four semifinalists.
The Phoenix Public School will play against The
Doly College in the first semifinal tomorrow
while the host school will take on Lawrence
School in the second semifinal.
While TNA and The Daly College had already
booked their places in the semis, Lawrence
School hammered Birla Public School (Pilani) 9-1
today to confirm its place in the last four.
Lawarence School player Aman Suyal scored an
astonishing 8 goals in the match.
The Phoenix Public School also won its crucial
match by a solitary goal to set up a semifinal
encounter with The Doly College.
Meanwhile, the lottery draw organized by TNA
Alumni Association which was scheduled tomorrow
has been postponed to October 1 due to
unavoidable reasons, the organizers said. |
