Slides also eat into BSNL network

GANGTKO, September 3: The recent spate of landslides in the State have also affected to the telecom network due to widespread damages of BSNL optical fibre cables at many places. The damages disrupted BSNL services in most parts of the State.
BSNL Sikkim general manager SK Mahato said that the BSNL suffered a loss of around Rs. 10 lakhs on account of repair and replacement of damaged cables measuring about to 3 kms.
Several hundred meters of optical fibre cable were damaged between Yanyang and Tarku and between Temi and Damthang. Similar damages were reported between Dickhu bazaar and Singtam, said Mahato.
The general manager said 300 metres of cable were also damaged between Kumerk and Rangpo while the slides near the Government Fruit Preservation Factory near Singtam also caused similar damages to the cable.
Normal telecom services have been restored throughout the State barring Yanyang and Dickchu bazaar which is expected to be normalized within a couple of days, said Mahato.
