GANGTOK,: Altogether 12,547 students from Sikkim are appearing for the CBSE X and XII board examinations 2026 which commenced from Tuesday at various exam centres across the State.
Among them are 6,571 students of Class X and 5,976 students of Class XII from 247 secondary schools and 111 senior secondary schools of the State.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay has conveyed his heartiest greetings, best wishes, and encouragement to all the students of Sikkim appearing for the CBSE Class X and XII board examinations and ICSE class X examinations.
“As you step into this significant phase of your academic journey, believe in the hard work you have put in and the knowledge you have gained. Stay calm, remain focused, and approach each paper with clarity and confidence,” said the Chief Minister.
“May you face every question with courage, give your very best effort, and emerge stronger and more self-assured. Wishing you all outstanding success and a future filled with tremendous achievement, growth, and new opportunities,” said the Chief Minister in his message.
Similarly, Education minister Raju Basnet extended his best wishes to the students of Sikkim appearing for their CBSE Class X and XII board examinations which started on February 17.
In his message to the students, Basnet reminded that while examinations are important, an exam is not necessarily a test of their lives but a test of what they have learnt and understood. ‘’Your marks do not define your worth. They reflect your preparation, discipline, and clarity of concepts. The real examination of life begins after you complete your studies when you apply knowledge, values, and character to serve society and shape your future,” he said.
The minister informed that the Government of Sikkim has taken several initiatives to support the students in this journey.
Under the Chief Minister Mentorship Programme (CMMP), special winter coaching classes were organized for Class X students to strengthen foundational concepts and improve examination readiness. Academic support sessions, mentoring guidance, and focused interventions were carried out to ensure that students from every corner of the State receive equal opportunity to prepare and excel, he said.
The Chief Minister's Mentorship Programme (CMMP) in Sikkim is a State government initiative targeting a 100% pass rate for Class X board exams. Launched by the Chief Minister on September 5, 2024, it provides free winter coaching and mentorship to students, focusing on improving academic performance across all districts.
In 2025, Sikkim recorded an impressive overall result in the CBSE class X and XII board examinations. In the Class 10 CBSE examinations, the pass percentage rose from 66.87% in 2024 to an impressive 79.97% in 2025, across both government and private schools. In Class 12, the pass rate increased from 87.49% in 2024 to 89.41% in 2025.
Our schools, teachers, and education officials have worked tirelessly to provide academic guidance, doubt-clearing sessions, and motivational support to the students, said the Education minister.
“I urge you to approach the examination hall with confidence and calmness. Read the questions carefully, manage your time wisely, and write with clarity. Believe in your preparation. Maintain honesty and discipline, as these values will guide you far beyond the classroom.”
Basnet urged the students to stay positive, stay focused, and give their best effort. Whatever the outcome, remember that perseverance, hard work, and integrity will always lead you toward success, he said.
May you all perform to the best of your abilities and make your families and the State of Sikkim proud, said the Education minister in his message to the students.
