GANGTOK,: Renowned litterateur Birkey Khadka, widely known by his pen name
‘Dooarseli’, has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dooars Gaurav
Samman 2025 by the Dooars Nepali Sahitya Vikash Samiti (DNSVS).
The
award, which recognises outstanding literary contributions and efforts to
promote the cultural identity of the Dooars region, will be formally presented
to Khadka during the Bhasa Diwas celebrations on August 24 at Middle Dooars.
DNSVS
vice president Rupesh Sharma informed that the decision to confer this year’s
honour on Khadka was made during a Samiti meeting held on Saturday. Instituted
in 2023, the Dooars Gaurav Samman is awarded annually in memory of Krishna Maya
Shretha, a respected figure from Bhakrakote, by her family.
Hailing
from Katalgudi in the Dooars, Khadka is a celebrated literary figure whose
pseudonym ‘Dooarseli’ reflects his profound connection to the region. Though he
primarily writes in Hindi, Khadka is a key figure in Nepali literature as well.
His contributions include translating major Hindi literary works into Nepali
and vice versa, bridging linguistic and cultural divides through his writing.
Many of his works have been featured in leading national Hindi publications.
With
this honour, Birkey Khadka becomes the third recipient of the Dooars Gaurav
Samman.
