BJP demands immediate restoration of drinking water supply in Gangtok

GANGTOK, : State BJP on Monday demanded immediate restoration of drinking water supply to the people in Gangtok.

“As Sikkim commemorates 50 years of its integration into India, its capital Gangtok is grappling with a severe drinking water crisis that has left residents helpless and exposed a glaring failure of governance. Repeated disruptions in water supply, unannounced maintenance activities such as water tank cleaning, and poor communication have disrupted daily life - affecting both residents and tourists alike,” said the State BJP in a media statement.

The State BJP added that the drinking water crisis has taken a grave toll on healthcare services. The dialysis unit at the New STNM Hospital is functioning at minimal capacity due to the water shortage, forcing poor patients to skip critical treatments or turn to costly private alternatives, putting lives at risk, said the party.

“The people of Gangtok are demanding urgent action. They want immediate restoration of regular drinking water supply, clear and timely communication prior to any service disruptions, full restoration of the dialysis unit with adequate staff and supplies, and a thorough investigation into the failure and accountability for those responsible.”

“This crisis is a stark reminder: milestone celebrations mean little when citizens are deprived of the most basic necessity — clean drinking water,” said the Sikkim BJP.
