GANGTOK,: Football fans in capital Gangtok looking for a place to catch the FIFA World Cup final tonight in a festive atmosphere can head to MG Marg, where the State government is setting up the Chief Minister's Fan Park with a giant LED screen for the live screening of the title clash between Spain and Argentina.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay on Saturday announced the initiative, saying the Fan Park has been arranged to enable football lovers of Sikkim, especially the youth, to enjoy the global sporting spectacle in a safe and festive atmosphere.

“Football is more than just a sport; it is a passion that unites people. Sikkim has always been known for its deep love of football and for producing talented players who have made our State proud,” said the Chief Minister on social media.

As the world prepares to witness the FIFA World Cup Final, we want the people of Sikkim, especially our youth, to enjoy this historic occasion in a safe and festive atmosphere, he added.

With this in mind, the Chief Minister’s Fan Park is being established at MG Marg, Gangtok, featuring a giant LED screen for the live screening of the FIFA World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina.

Spain is chasing its second World Cup after the triumph in 2010, while Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, is pursuing a fourth title and back-to-back World Cups, an achievement not secured in more than six decades.

Golay informed that he has directed the concerned officials to permit restaurants, bakeries, and eateries at MG Marg to remain open until 3:30 am on July 20, subject to compliance with all applicable laws, safety norms, and public order.

The Police Department and the concerned authorities have been instructed to ensure adequate security, traffic, and crowd management for the peaceful and safe conduct of the event.

“I invite everyone to celebrate this global sporting spectacle with enthusiasm, mutual respect, and civic responsibility. Let us enjoy the match, stay safe, and celebrate responsibly,” said the Chief Minister.
