CM announces ‘Kalakar Bhawan’ in Gangtok, ‘Kala Ghar’ in every district

GANGTOK,: On the concluding day of Sikkim Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan, Chief Minister P.S. Golay announced establishment of a ‘Kalakar Bhawan’ in Gangtok, and ‘Kala Ghar’ and ‘Kalakar Sangrahlay’ in all six districts.

Golay also declared that the Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan will be held every year on March 4 to promote and appreciate the artists from Sikkim.

Addressing the concluding day of the two-day Sikkim Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan at Manan Kendra here, the Chief Minister said: “The ruling government has been supporting artists and sportspersons since it came to power because we believe it is the responsibility of the State government to come out with the solution.”

He said the State government will form a committee to formulate a policy aimed at the welfare of the artists.

The Sammelan was held with an aim to address and deliberate on the problems, welfare and development of artists, and to formulate a policy for the benefit of the artists in the State.

A synopsis of the discussions and deliberations among artists on the first day of the Sammelan was submitted to the Chief Minister today for a formulation of a policy favouring the artists of Sikkim.On the concluding day, Life Time Achievement awards were presented to Padma Shri recipients Jordan Lepcha, Kazi Singh, Khandu Wangchuk Bhutia and Sanu Lama, singers Shanti Thatal and Dawa Lama, “Radioman of Sikkim” Yapchung Kazi and Nar Bahadur Pradhan, the first Maruni dancer from Sikkim.

Artistes from the fields of art, fashion, films and music, and social media influencers were also felicitated.

The concluding day also included performances by Siddharth Shrestha, Bimal Neopaney, Namrata KC and Babita Manandar among others.
