GANGTOK, : Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay on Saturday attended a
pre-Budget meeting in New Delhi and drew attention of the Union government to
the development priorities and fiscal sensitivities of Sikkim.
The
pre-Budget meeting was chaired by Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and
attended by Finance MoS Pankaj Chaudhary, Chief Ministers and Finance ministers
from various States, and senior officers of the Central and State governments.
“During
the deliberations, I shared Sikkim’s perspectives as a small border State with
unique geographical and strategic challenges and drew attention to the State’s
development priorities and fiscal sensitivities. The importance of sustained
support for capital investment, stability in devolution, and flexibility for
smaller States was underlined,” said the Chief Minister on his social media
page.
Key
concerns relating to connectivity, infrastructure resilience,
employment-generating sectors, and smooth transition of welfare programmes were
also highlighted by the Chief Minister.
Emphasis
was laid on the strategic importance of border infrastructure and the need for
continued assistance to strengthen critical road networks and logistical
connectivity.
“The
interaction was constructive and forward-looking, with assurance of due
consideration to the issues raised. I reaffirmed Sikkim’s commitment to
inclusive growth, sustainable development, and to contributing meaningfully
towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047,” said the Chief Minister.
