GANGTOK, (IPR): Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today presided over a
high-level State review meeting at Samman Bhawan to assess the implementation of
three landmark criminal justice reforms: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
(BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam
(BSA), which came into effect on July 1, 2024.
During
the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the crucial role of these reforms
in enhancing public safety, procedural efficiency, and citizen-centric justice.
He
also offered strategic guidance to ensure seamless integration of the laws,
with a strong focus on public safety, security, and convenience.
Home
secretary M. Bharani presented the New Criminal Laws (NCL) Progress Report,
detailing key milestones and ongoing implementation efforts.
Likewise,
the Chief Minister handed over appreciation letters to all officers involved in
compiling the compendium.
The
meeting also marked the formal launch of the Compendium of Notifications,
Rules, and SOPs on New Criminal Laws, a comprehensive guide to support
effective rollout.
In
attendance were chief secretary R .Telang, DGP AkshaySachdeva, Law secretary,
Health secretary, and senior officials from the Sikkim Police and NIC.
