DEO Gangtok reviews progress of SIR 2026 mapping exercise

GANGTOK, (IPR): District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-District Collector (DC), Gangtok, Rohan Agawane, chaired a review meeting on the mapping process being undertaken as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of Electoral Rolls by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) under Gangtok District at the Conference Hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Sichey today.

The DEO-cum-DC Gangtok interacted with the BLOs and reviewed the status of the mapping process being carried out across the district. Emphasising the importance of timely completion of the exercise, he urged the BLOs to work with dedication and urgency to achieve their targets.

The DEO stressed the importance of ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind and directed the BLOs to coordinate closely with Councillors, Area MLAs and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for the effective execution of the mapping process.

He further instructed the BLOs to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and ensure visits to every household within their designated areas to facilitate comprehensive coverage and accurate electoral data collection.

The mapping process is being conducted from May 30, 2026, to June 28, 2026.

In his concluding remarks, the DEO urged the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to maintain constant vigilance and closely monitor the activities of the BLOs throughout the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

He highlighted that EROs and AEROs play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, transparency and timely completion of electoral roll revision activities, besides providing necessary guidance and supervision to field-level functionaries for effective implementation of the exercise. He further stated that their role in ensuring adherence to Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines is vital for maintaining the integrity and credibility of the electoral roll.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Collector (HQ), Gangtok, Tshering Norgyal Theengh, Additional District Collector, Gangtok, Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) (HQ), Mahendra Chettri, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Gangtok, C.S. Limboo, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), along with concerned officials.
