GANGTOK, : The Former Members of Parliament (Sikkim) Forum recently mailed a
petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the request to protect the
interest and welfare of the Nepali community of Sikkim, who are Sikkim Subject
Certificate holders, as per the relevant clauses of Article 371F.
In
view of the protection guaranteed under these clauses under Article 371F, the forum has requested the Prime Minister to restore the
reservation granted earlier to the Nepali community Sikkim Subject holders by
the Chogyal, a press release informs.
Earlier,
the forum had submitted similar petitions to the Governor and the Chief
Minister of Sikkim for initiating corrective action on the subject for the
restoration of the Nepali seat in the State Legislative Assembly. A copy of the
petition was also sent to Union Home minister Amit Shah, informed the forum.
“Sikkim
is a border State with strategic geo-political sensitivity. The forum has expressed
deep concern for allowing people of doubtful nationalities to enter Sikkim and
permitting them to work and settle in sensitive border areas and has therefore
drawn the attention of the State government over the very serious and important
matter,” said the forum in the press release issued by former Lok Sabha MP
Nakul Das Rai.
