GANGTOK,: The High Court of Sikkim has taken note of traffic restriction imposed on Atal Setu Bridge wherein lighter vehicles are required to pass through the Rangpo town instead of directly using the bridge while exiting the State.

The Atal Setu Bridge, located just ahead of Rangpo town, connects the border town with neighbouring West Bengal along the NH 10.

During a PIL hearing on April 2, it was pointed out to the High Court of Sikkim about the restriction on Atal Setu Bridge where lighter vehicles are allowed to pass through only the Rangpo town.

The Additional Advocate General is directed to take instructions as to why the lighter vehicles are restricted and they have been directed to passthrough the Rangpo town and why lighter vehicles cannot be allowed to have atwo-way traffic through the bridge, said the division bench of Chief Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque and Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai.

The division bench further noted the report of many heavy vehicles parked on the sides of the Atal Setu Bridge.

We have no doubt that such parking shall not be allowed on the bridge and traffic shall ensure that no lighter or heavy vehicles should be allowed topark on the sides of the Atal Setu Bridge, directed the High Court of Sikkim.
