Joint family is the soul of Indian culture and society

Prof. (Dr.) RAMESH KUMAR RAWAT Registrar Sikkim Professional University, Gangtok, Sikkim

In present times, the joint family system is breaking down. Most people are moving towards nuclear families. By moving from joint families to nuclear families, families are getting disintegrated, along with this, the values ??among the people in the society are also getting extinct. A person growing up in a joint family easily learns management, self-defense, hospitality to guests and deal with all type problems. He can play his part properly in maintaining the sweetness of relationships and maintaining relations.

Due to the prevalence of nuclear families, the importance of relations like uncle, aunt etc. has reduced. If we say that joint family is the soul of Indian culture and society, then it will not be an exaggeration. There are innumerable benefits of a joint family. It develops a sense of sacrifice towards each other among the family members, a sense of cooperation develops. A sense of respect and honour towards each other develops. There is no loneliness and the message of family unity is also conveyed in the society. In a joint family, if a member of the family faces a problem, then other members of the family easily stand up to support him and he does not even know when and how his problem got resolved, that the bad time of that member has passed and he does not go into depression.

In present times, the main reason for increasing numbers of suicides, broken relationships, divorces etc. is also the nuclear family. Such incidents are rarely seen in joint families. Because when such situations arise, all the members of the family sit together and think about it and solve the problem easily by dealing with it. A joint family not only gives an identity in the society, but it also has its own strength. A person living in a joint family easily learns the art of speaking, management skills and the art of living due to family values. He can easily play his part in charity work without being influenced by selfishness. Discipline, shame in eyes, love and respect towards family members and parents can also be seen in joint family. If both parents are working in nuclear family, then how can children get good values. Whereas in joint families, this is easily fulfilled by uncle, aunt, uncle, aunt etc. Joint family is such a fabric of society which teaches the art of living a successful life in every way.

In today's economic era where inflation has increased, by living in a joint family, many expenses can be controlled and savings of one's earnings can be increased, which can be used when needed. In nuclear family, the burden of inflation is more and people hesitate in helping each other. Decisions of joint families are also taken jointly by sitting together and taking everyone's opinion in any context, the results of which are also positive. Evils like ego, anger, greed can also be conquered to some extent by living in a joint family. In a joint family, the members get proper advice at the time of crisis and also get the right path. If we talk about the Ramayana era, then the four sons of King Dashrath, Lord Rama, Laxman, Bharat and Shatrughna lived together in a joint family, as a result of which even today we all talk about following them. If there is a little understanding, sacrifice, respect for family members, respect for each other, patience in a joint family, then one can easily live in a joint family. That is why I appeal to all the community members to give more importance to the joint family system and we all should brainstorm together and try to save the declining joint family system and should make every effort to save the joint family system, which is the soul of Indian culture and society, by fully supporting it, we should follow it ourselves and inspire others as well.
