Landslides disrupt NH 10, cleared for single-lane traffic

DARJEELING,: Landslides broke out in various places all over the hills on Thursday following continuous rainfall since late last night with vehicle movement in NH 10, the principal route connecting Kalimpong and Sikkim to the plains, also disrupted during the daytime.

NH 10 was first closed in the morning hours after a landslide occurred at around 7 am near Melli. The debris and boulders were cleared at around noon, allowing vehicular movement. One hour later, landslides blocked the highway at Setijhora and Selfie Dara which was cleared for traffic at around 3:30 pm for single-lane traffic.

In Darjeeling, a landslide blocked the Lebong Cart Road connecting the town to Lebong and Singamari. The obstruction lasted for some hours before it was cleared for single-lane traffic.

Locals expressed that a major incident was averted with the road stretch being busy during daytime as it leads to different schools and colleges at Singamari.
