KUSH HANG LEEWANG

GEYZING,: The man who reportedly jumped off the Gamon Bridge near Legship Bazar into Rangit River along with his 7-month-old daughter on Friday evening remains untraced.

The person was identified as Tapan Das hailing from Jaigaon, West Bengal. He was staying at his in-laws’ house in Legship with his wife.

Despite a well-coordinated search operation, both the man and his infant daughter are missing. The search operation was initiated by Geyzing police, Manav Sewa Samiti of Legship and locals. The efforts continued till late evening of Saturday but they could not be found and are feared to have drowned.

The locals maintained that the duo may have been swept downstream owing to increased water level in the swift flowing Rangit River or might have got stuck in the dams set up on the course of the river.

The reason behind Tapan Das taking an extreme step remains yet to be ascertained.
