Massive fire guts Forest quarters in Darjeeling

Darjeeling, : A massive fire broke out last night at Chota Kakjhora in Darjeeling, completely gutting eight Forest quarters under the Darjeeling Division. The blaze, which started around 8 pm, was brought under control after more than two hours of firefighting efforts.

Eyewitnesses said the fire spread rapidly through the partially concrete and mostly wooden structures. Three fire tenders were deployed to the scene, assisted by local residents and water trucks usually used to supply water to the Darjeeling town area. Truck drivers played a crucial role by bringing in water to help douse the flames.

Although eight quarters were destroyed, only seven were occupied at the time. Fortunately, all residents managed to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported. However, none of the families could salvage their belongings from the fire.

The affected families have been provided temporary shelter at nearby locations. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
