Monsoon Beauty

Shahnaz Husain

The monsoon brings welcome relief after the harsh summer, but the increased humidity can be challenging for your skin. Excess moisture and repeated exposure to rainwater often lead to oily skin, clogged pores, blackheads, whiteheads, and breakouts. With the right skincare routine and lightweight makeup, however, your skin can stay fresh and glowing throughout the season.

The golden rule for monsoon skincare is simple: cleanse, tone, and moisturise.

Cleanse Well

Humidity increases sebum production, which attracts dirt and pollution, clogging pores. Cleanse your face twice daily with a mild, chemical-free cleanser that removes excess oil without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. Cleansers containing natural ingredients like seaweed extracts help maintain the skin's pH balance while keeping it nourished.

Keep Makeup Light

Heavy makeup can feel sticky and clog pores during the rainy season. Choose lightweight, oil-free formulas such as BB creams or tinted moisturisers. Use waterproof foundation, concealer, eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick to prevent smudging. A waterproof setting spray works better than heavy powder in humid weather. Don't skip moisturiser—opt for a lightweight, oil-free formula to keep skin hydrated without adding greasiness.

Boost Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that supports healthy skin and strengthens the body's natural defences. Include citrus fruits, kiwi, bell peppers, and broccoli in your diet. A Vitamin C serum can brighten the complexion, reduce blemishes, minimise scars, and protect the skin from environmental damage.

Exfoliate Gently

Exfoliate two to three times a week with a gentle scrub to remove dead skin cells, excess oil, and impurities. Regular exfoliation keeps pores clear, prevents blackheads and breakouts, and reveals brighter, smoother skin.

Use a Clay Mask

A clay mask twice a week helps draw out impurities, absorb excess oil, and balance sebum production. Choose a mask suited to your skin type—bentonite clay for oily skin, kaolin clay for dry or sensitive skin, and turmeric clay for acne-prone skin. Regular use leaves the skin refreshed, balanced, and less prone to breakouts.

With a simple skincare routine, lightweight waterproof makeup, and a healthy diet, you can enjoy the beauty of the monsoon while keeping your skin healthy, radiant, and glowing.
