Monsoon brings refreshing showers, lush greenery and cool
weather, but it also exposes our feet to rainwater, mud and bacteria. Constant
dampness creates the perfect environment for fungal and bacterial infections,
leading to itchy skin, cracked heels, bad odour and conditions like athlete's
foot.
A little extra care can keep your feet healthy throughout
the rainy season.
1. Keep Your Feet Dry
2. Choose the Right Footwear
3. Wear Breathable Socks
4. Care for Your Toenails
Easy Home Remedies
Foot Soak: Add ½ cup coarse salt and 10 drops lemon or orange
essential oil (or ½ cup juice) to warm water. For excessive sweating, add a few
drops of tea tree oil. Soak feet for 10–15 minutes.
Moisturising Lotion: Mix 3 tbsp rose water, 2 tbsp
lemon juice and 1 tsp glycerine. Apply after washing your feet and leave on for
30 minutes.
For Dry Feet: Add 2 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp
almond oil and 1 tbsp herbal shampoo to cool water. Soak feet for 20 minutes.
Cooling Foot Bath: Mix cold water with rose
water, lemon juice and a splash of eau de cologne. It refreshes, cleanses and
removes odour.
Massage Oil: Blend 100 ml olive oil with 2 drops each of eucalyptus
and rosemary oil, and 3 drops of rose or khus oil. Massage into the feet to
nourish and protect the skin.
Turmeric Paste: Apply turmeric paste around
the toes to help combat fungal infections, thanks to its natural antibacterial
and antifungal properties.
Remember: Clean, dry feet and well-ventilated footwear are your best defence against monsoon-related foot problems.
