Nepathya to perform first open-air concert in Gangtok

GANGTOK,: Nepal’s iconic folk-rock band Nepathya is set to perform its first open-air concert in Gangtok, bringing its distinctive blend of folk traditions and contemporary rock to Sikkim as part of the “Let’s Get Loud: Celebrate Sikkim” concert series.

Led by vocalist Amrit Gurung, Nepathya has spent more than three decades taking Nepali folk-rooted music to audiences across generations and geographical boundaries. The band’s music draws extensively from indigenous melodies, oral traditions, rural communities and the Himalayan landscape.

The Gangtok concert is being positioned as a major cultural and musical event for Sikkim, with organisers expecting audiences from across the State as well as the Darjeeling hills, North Bengal, Northeast India, Nepal, Bhutan and other parts of the country.

The event follows last year’s edition of “Let’s Get Loud Sikkim”, which featured Sajjan Raj Vaidya and drew more than 2,000 visitors from outside the State, according to the organisers.

The organisers said the previous concert contributed an estimated circulation of more than Rs. 3 crore across the local economy through spending on hotels, restaurants, transportation, production services, local vendors and other businesses.

The upcoming Nepathya concert seeks to build on that momentum by combining a major live music experience with the promotion of Sikkim’s cultural heritage, cuisine, lifestyle, diversity, natural landscape and hospitality.

For Nepathya, the performance also marks an opportunity to bring its Himalayan musical identity to a new setting. The band, formed in the early 1990s, is widely regarded as one of the most influential names in Nepali folk-rock, with its repertoire reflecting cultural memory, social experience and the lives of communities across the Himalayan region.

Organisers Positive Vibes Entertainment (PVE) Network said the event was intended not only as a concert but also as an effort to strengthen Sikkim’s position as a destination for music and cultural tourism.

“The purpose of this edition goes beyond presenting a major artist,” said BikeshKayastha, founding director of PVE Network. “We want to celebrate Sikkim and demonstrate how a professionally planned concert can contribute to tourism, hospitality, local enterprise and the wider creative economy. Our vision is to establish Sikkim as an important cultural and musical tourism destination in India.”

The organisers said further details regarding the concert will be announced through the official channels of Positive Vibes Entertainment Networkand Nepathya.
