GANGTOK, (IPR): The North East NSS Festival 2026 commenced at SC Bhawan,
Gangtok, today with the arrival and registration of 300 National Service Scheme
(NSS) volunteers and officials representing the North Eastern States. The
five-day festival, being held from 16 to 20 July 2026, aims to strengthen the
spirit of volunteerism, leadership, community service and national integration
among the youth.
An
interactive ice-breaking session was organised to foster friendship and
cooperation among participants from different States, providing them with an
opportunity to interact and build camaraderie.
The
festival is being organised with the objective of enabling NSS volunteers to
understand the communities in which they work, understand themselves in
relation to their communities, identify community needs and problems while
involving local people in the problem-solving process, develop a strong sense
of social and civic responsibility, and utilise their knowledge to evolve
practical solutions for individual and community challenges.
The
successful commencement of the festival laid the foundation for the ensuing
days of educational, cultural and community-based activities, reaffirming the
National Service Scheme’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible and
service-oriented youth.
