North Sikkim experience heavy snowfall

Due to sudden change in weather, high reaches of North Sikkim along Lachen and Lachung valley experienced season’s first snowfall much before the onset of winters. Multiple landslides and unprecedented snowfall over the last a few days caused disruption of socio-economic activities and posing a challenge to all road users, a press release informs.

Sensing gravity of situation, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) mobilized their heavy machinery and manpower to clear strategic roads in North Sikkim.

“Brave workers of BRO through their unfettered resilience and resolute resolve have remained committed to keep the roads open to ensure that movement of men and material does not suffer. Freezing temperatures, insufficient oxygen, high winds and blizzards etc could not deter the will and determination of BRO workers, who despite all odds, ensured unhindered movement vehicles in North Sikkim,” the release mentions.
