PM Modi to attend Sikkim Statehood Golden Jubilee celebration’s closing ceremony

Sikkim’s key developmental priorities and emerging requirements submitted to PM

GANGTOK,: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday.

At the outset, the Chief Minister congratulated the Prime Minister on achieving the milestone of becoming the longest-serving Head of Government in India, lauding his leadership and commitment to national development, a CMO press release informs.

During the meeting, Golayapprised the Prime Minister of Sikkim’s key developmental priorities and emerging requirements. Discussions focused on enhancing support for critical sectors such as infrastructure development, sustainable growth, and initiatives aimed at improving the overall welfare of the people of the State.

The Chief Minister also expressed sincere appreciation for the reopening of the historic Nathu La Pass trade route along the ancient Silk Route, scheduled to resume from June 2026. He noted that the move is expected to provide a significant boost to local communities and the trading fraternity.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister extended a formal invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s Statehood.

The Prime Minister graciously accepted the invitation, the CMO release mentions.

The Chief Minister further conveyed his gratitude for the continued guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support extended by the Government of India towards the sustained progress and prosperity of Sikkim.

 

CM meets FM Sitharaman

 

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay met Union Finance minister NirmalaSitharamanand had a warm and constructive interaction.

The Chief Minister, behalf of the people of Sikkim, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Union Finance minister for the inclusion of Part–X, “Pride of Hills: Special Development Assistance for the Hill States,” under SASCI 2026–27, along with the generous allocation earmarked therein. He expressed gratitude for the recognition of the unique challenges faced by hill States and for the continued support extended by the Government of India, under which Sikkim is set to receive an additional allocation of Rs820 crores.

“During the meeting, we also discussed key developmental priorities of Sikkim, with emphasis on strengthening financial support, enhancing infrastructure, and accelerating sustainable growth in the State,” said the Chief Minister.

Further, the Chief Minister extended a warm welcome and conveyed his best wishes for her visit to the Vibrant Villages, a visionary initiative conceptualized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has emerged as a transformative and highly beneficial programme for the people residing in and around the border areas.

 

CM discuss Sikkim agriculture sector with Union minister

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay also met Union Agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and had a warm, cordial, and meaningful interaction.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister extended an invitation to the Union minister for the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee of Sikkim’s Statehood, which he graciously accepted.

“We held a comprehensive and forward-looking discussion on strengthening the agricultural sector in Sikkim, with a focus on organic farming practices, value addition, and streamlining production processes. Special emphasis was laid on enhancing the cultivation and productivity of large cardamom, a key cash crop of the State,” said the Chief Minister.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between research and practice through a robust “lab-to-land” approach, along with improving institutional support systems, including initiatives related to Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited.

We also deliberated on the implementation and potential benefits of the ViksitKrishiSankalpAbhiyan in further strengthening agricultural outreach and productivity in the State, shared the Chief Minister.
