NAMCHI,: Satish Chandra Rai, the SKM candidate for Namchi-Singithang
bypolls, filed his nomination papers on Monday to the Returning Officer at
Namchi DAC.
The SKM candidate
was escorted by a large number of SKM workers and functionaries including Bhoj
Raj Rai, Delay Barfungpa, NB Pradhan, LB Das, Raj Kumari Thapa and Bikash
Basnet.
Former
Namchi-Singhithang MLA Krishna Kumari Rai was also present as the SKM
supporters accompanied Satish Chandra Rai to file his nomination papers. The candidate attended receptions at various
places in Namchi along with the SKM election campaign coordinators.
Speaking
to the media, the SKM candidate thanked the party president & Chief
Minister PS Golay for fielding him as the Namchi-Singhithang candidate. He also
thanked former Namchi-Singhithang MLA Krishna Kumari Rai and the party’s
parliamentary board.
“After
winning the bypoll, I will work towards solving water scarcity of Namchi as the
first priority, followed by proper sewage and drainage management system of the
town,” said Satish Chandra Rai as his priorities after being elected.
The rural
areas within the constituency will also be given utmost priority, he added.
Speaking
to the media, former Namchi-Singhithang MLA Krishna Kumari Rai expressed that
the public demands made during the 2024 Assembly election campaign will be
fulfilled by the new candidate.
Krishna
Kumari Rai had secured a resounding victory from Namchi-Singhithang during the
2024 Assembly election. However, she resigned a day after taking oath as the
legislator in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly paving way for the bye-elections
in Namchi-Singhithang.
So far,
only the SKM has filed candidature for Namchi-Singithang seat with October 25
as the last day for filing nominations.
