SILIGURI,: Security has been heightened at Indo-Nepal border in Panitanki amid reports of thousands of prisoners fleeing the jails in Nepal. In the latest development, Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal has given the charge to guard the boarder at Kakarvitta after the unrest since last few days due to movement launched by Gen-Z.
After the arson and vandalism, APF along with other security forces in Nepal had fled away from their duties. After the Nepal Army took charge to control the law and order situation, APF has been asked to guard the border in co-ordination with Army.
The curfew is still imposed in various parts of eastern Nepal including Kakrvitta border.
Prabin Bhandari, a journalist from Kakarvitta, informed that APF has been brought back to guard the border under the instruction and coordination of Nepal Army.
He also informed that APF is also seeing and eying at border to see that no prisoners can cross the border to hide in Indian soil. APF is also trying to cover the unmanned and porous border points to stop the prisoners that have escaped from jail.
Meanwhile in the Indian side, SSB guarding the border is maintaining strict vigil and not allowing any Nepali citizen to cross the border except if they show the valid air ticket from Bagdogra airport. The Indian nationals are also not allowed to travel Nepal for security reasons but Indians stranded in Nepal can enter the border by showing the identity proof similarly same with Nepali citizens who wants to enter Nepal from Panitanki border.
Darjeeling district magistrate Preeti Goyal who visited the border in Panitanki last evening said that she met officials and security forces to ensure that Indian stranded inside Nepal can get easy entry by showing their valid documents.
