GANGTOK,: Services XI secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over East Bengal FC to book a semi-final spot in the 41st Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament at Paljor Stadium.
Abhishek Pawar scored the decisive goal in the third minute of extra time, marking his fourth goal of the tournament in three games.
The quarterfinal clash, played under floodlights, remained goalless through regular time. East Bengal faced a setback early in the second half when Bikram Pradhan was shown a red card following a second booking, leaving the team a player short.
Early in extra-time, Pawar delivered the vital goal. Services XI held firm in defense and ultimately secured the win.
They now face a semi-final clash against Diamond Harbour FC Kolkata on November 27.
On Wednesday evening, the first semi-final will see Sikkim Dragon FC take on Rajasthan United FC in what promises to be another exciting encounter. Both teams are strong contenders for the title.
