Sikkim CM felicitated by St. Joseph’s School

DARJEELING,: Sikkim Chief Minister PS Golay was on Monday felicitated by St. Joseph’s School here with the Chief Minister mostly speaking on the connection and bond he has with this hill town.

The Sikkim Chief Minister was specially thanked in the program by St. Joseph’s School for his contribution in the construction of a flyover pedestrian bridge connecting the school with the ground just below it.

Addressing the event, Golay said, "My connection with Darjeeling began years ago when I was a student in Darjeeling Government College during 1985. Apart from that I am also a parent of an alumnus with my son Aditya having studied in St. Joseph’s School."

"I still remember that when I studied here the Gorkhaland agitation had started with frequent strikes and CRPF raids but even during the challenges then the kind hearted people here welcomed me as one of their own and took care of me," he added.

The Sikkim CM maintained that the generosity and kindness of the people in Darjeeling had deeply touched him. He said that the place has helped in shaping him into the person he was.

"My son Aditya also studied here as I wanted to instil in him the same values. My connection with this town is that of love and respect," said Golay while also sharing his favourite eateries and leisure activities in Darjeeling during the past.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister talked about the committee that has been formed by the Sikkim government to make a proposal on the demand of tribal status for 12 communities which they will be submitting.
