GYALSHING, (IPR): The three-day Sikkim Rural Tourism Meet 2025 successfully concluded Monday at Gumpa Dara, Uttarey with area MLA Sudesh Kumar Subba, who is also an advisor to Tourism department, as the chief guest.
The final day commenced with an adventurous trek to Phoktey Dara, a renowned trekking destination in Maneybong-Dentam constituency, situated at an altitude of 3,734 meters. The area MLA, along with officials from Tourism and Forest departments and invited delegates, joined 100 participants on the early morning trek to witness the scenic beauty of the region.
Additionally, a bird-watching excursion was conducted from Uttarey to Tenzing Hillary Park.
A key highlight of the event was the interactive and feedback sessions, where delegates discussed marketing strategies, business collaborations and investment opportunities in the rural tourism sector. Delegates also provided constructive feedback on areas for further improvements.
Neeraj Pradhan, PCE, Tourism department and nodal officer, Sikkim INSPIRES, addressed all queries and outlined the government's future plans to enhance tourist attractions, promote adventure sports, and implement strategic improvements to boost rural tourism and enhance visitor experience.
Participants expressed high satisfaction with the hospitality extended during the event and conveyed their enthusiasm for attending similar meets in the future. They emphasized that such engagements would help them gain a deeper understanding of the region and contribute to the development of rural tourism in Sikkim.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest expressed gratitude to the departments, delegates, stakeholders and all individuals involved, commending their collective efforts in making the event a grand success.
He emphasized the crucial role of rural tourism in fostering sustainable livelihoods, strengthening local economies and preserving Sikkim’s cultural and natural heritage. He highlighted that Sikkim, with its rich traditions, breath-taking landscapes and warm hospitality, must ensure that local communities directly benefit from tourism activities. Through homestays, eco-tourism and adventure tourism, the State is working towards a sustainable model that uplifts the rural economy while preserving cultural identity, he added.
Further more, he underscored the importance of collaboration and investment in rural tourism, stating that the meet had provided a strategic platform for entrepreneurs, investors and tourism professionals to explore new opportunities and establish partnerships to position Sikkim as a premier rural tourism destination.
Throughout the day, adventure tourism activities such as paragliding, hot air balloon rides, mountain biking and bungee jumping were held.
Cultural performances, local food experiences and exhibitions of indigenous products enriched the event.
