GANGTOK,: Sikkim Amateur Swimming Association (SASA) is all set to host the 17th Sikkim State Open Swimming Championship at Tashi Namgyal Academy (TNA) here on September 9 and 10 September.
The championship will have 93 swimming events for men and women, junior boys and girls, and sub junior boys and girls. The events include free style, breast stroke, back stroke, butterfly stroke, medley and relay.
Addressing media, SASA president Kuber Bhandari said that they are expecting around 150 participants. “This year we have introduced QR codes whereby the participants can register themselves for the championship. The interested participants can visit the Facebook and Instagram pages of SASA where the QR exists and register. The championship is open for residents of Sikkim or those studying, working and settled in the State.”
Bhandari informed that Chief Minister P.S. Golay has assured them to establish a swimming academy in the State.
“We are very hopeful the same would be done at the earliest for the welfare, betterment of State swimming aspirants to foster and shine the name and fame of the State at the national and international levels. We, the SASA members, also extend our gratitude towards the CM for his support in the sporting activity of swimming,” said Bhandari.
The conference was also attended by SASA vice president Benu Mukhia and general secretary Karma Sonam Bhutia.
