Skin Tan During Summers

Shahnaz Husain

Tired of your skin getting darker every time you step into the sun? You’re not alone. Summer brings not just heat, but also uneven skin tone and tanning. A tan is the skin’s natural defence against harmful UV rays—melanocytes produce melanin to absorb radiation and protect deeper layers. However, prolonged exposure leads to excess melanin, causing dark patches, premature ageing, and increased skin damage.

While a tan fades naturally over time, a consistent skincare routine and simple natural remedies can help speed up the process and restore your glow.

Yoghurt Remedy:
Rich in lactic acid, yoghurt gently exfoliates and brightens the skin. Apply plain curd or mix 2 tablespoons with a pinch of turmeric. Leave for 15–20 minutes and rinse. Use 2–3 times a week.

Lemon & Honey Pack:
Lemon exfoliates while honey hydrates. Mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice with 1 teaspoon honey (you can add yoghurt for extra nourishment). Apply for 15 minutes and wash off. Avoid lemon on sensitive skin or before sun exposure.

Cucumber Cooling:
Cucumber hydrates, soothes, and reduces tanning. Apply fresh juice or pulp for 15–20 minutes to calm sun-exposed skin and refresh your complexion.

Simple DIY Packs:

  • Besan, turmeric, and curd for daily tan removal
  • Papaya, oats, and curd for gentle exfoliation
  • Tomato pulp with cream and honey for nourishment
  • Almond paste with curd for mild scrubbing

Regular use of these natural treatments, along with sun protection, can help reduce tanning and keep your skin healthy and radiant.
