State-level I-Day Football Tournament: Sikkim Brotherhood storm into semis

GANGTOK,: Sikkim Brotherhood FC registered a comfortable 3-1 victory over Siniolchu FC at Paljor Stadium here on Saturday to enter the semi-final of the State-level Independence Day Football Tournament for the Sir ChogyalTashiNamgyal Memorial Cup 2026.

Yakubu scored clinical headers in the 14th and 49th minutes for Sikkim Brotherhood FC, while Herbert added the third in the 61st minute.

Siniolchu FC responded with a goal from Sujan Manger in the 80th minute, but Sikkim Brotherhood FC maintained their composure until the final whistle to secure a 3-1 win.

Siniolchu FC started the game on a bright note, putting pressure on their rivals’ box early on. As the match progressed, Sikkim Brotherhood FC found their rhythm and launched strong counterattacks, particularly through their trio of foreign players.

Yakubu was presented with a well-placed cross from the left flank and neatly headed the ball into the bottom corner of the Siniolchu FC goal. His second goal came from a strong cross from the right, which he glanced past the Siniolchu goalkeeper and into the net.

The Man of the Match award was presented to Sikkim Brotherhood FC midfielder AnuragChettri for his impressive performance.

State Chief Information Commissioner KuberBhandari was the chief guest at the match, which was attended by executives of the Sikkim Football Association (SFA). The prestigious tournament is organised by the SFA.

On Sunday afternoon, St Joseph’s College Darjeeling will take on Georgian FC Kalimpong in the second quarter-final match.
