SU student Roshni Basfor wins two gold medals at Open Asia Powerlifting Championship

GANGTOK, : Roshni Basfor, a second-semester MA student in the Department of English, Sikkim University, won two gold medals at the Open Asia Powerlifting Championship (Classic Unequipped) 2025. The event, organized by United Powerlifting India, Sports Association of Gujarat and Surat City Police, was held in Surat, Gujarat from February 21 to 23.

Competing in the 52kg junior women’s category, Roshni secured gold medals in both the full powerlifting and single deadlift events. Her unwavering dedication and commitment to the sport have been instrumental in achieving this remarkable feat on an international platform, a release states.

Roshni had previously clinched a silver medal at the 4th All India Powerlifting Championship 2024 (Classic Unequipped) held in Pune, Maharashtra from December 20 to 22, 2024.

“This incredible achievement has been made possible under the leadership of Sikkim University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jyoti Prakash Tamang, whose support for academics and sports has been instrumental in nurturing talent and fostering excellence. In recognition of her achievements, Sikkim University and Sikkim University Students’ Association (SUSA) felicitated Roshni Basfor on March 6.
