GANGTOK,: The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is making full preparations for its 14th Foundation Day celebration, scheduled to be held on February 4 at Rangpo Playground.
All party leaders, executives, and functionaries are actively engaged in the preparations for the event, which is expected to be the party’s State-level celebration after a year.
Speaking to Sikkim Express, SKM secretary general Arun Upreti said that the party is fully prepared to celebrate its 14th Foundation Day in a grand manner. He stated that the key highlight of the programme will be the address by party president and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay to party leaders, workers, and members.
Upreti further informed that a massive joining programme has also been planned, during which new members will be formally inducted into the party by the Chief Minister-cum-party president. He added that the growing interest in joining SKM reflects public confidence in the leadership of the Chief Minister, the SKM-led government, and the holistic development initiatives undertaken across the State.
He appealed to citizens to participate in the celebration and contribute to making the event a grand success.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister’s political secretary Bikash Basnet stated that as of now, the party has received information about over 9,000 people joining SKM after leaving their previous political affiliations. He added that the actual number is expected to increase in the coming days.
We are expecting 500 people per constituency to join the SKM during the foundation day event, said the political secretary.
Basnet also mentioned that several party members who had shifted to other political parties during the previous elections have expressed their desire to return to SKM. Responding to persistent requests, the party has organised the mass joining programme under the theme ‘Jan Andolan to Jan Sarkar’.
He expressed confidence that unity and collective effort would help take the state to greater heights through holistic development and overall welfare.
Basnet requested supporters attending the February 4 celebration to leave early from their homes to avoid traffic congestion, reach the venue on time, and help ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
