GANGTOK,: Sikkim
shooters Anu Chettri and Tshering Yangden Bhutia have qualified for the 69th
National Shooting Championship 2026 after putting up strong performances at the
13th North East Zonal Shooting Championship held in Assam.
Chettri secured qualification in the 10m Air Pistol
event, while Bhutia earned her berth in the 10m Air Rifle.
The two athletes were among 11 shooters from Sikkim
who competed in the air weapon events at the zonal championship, with the
Sikkim Rifle Association contingent comprising eight pistol shooters and three
rifle shooters.
Meanwhile, air pistol shooter Laxuman Adhikari won a
bronze medal in the master men’s 10m individual category.
The Sikkim Rifle Association said Adhikari's medal was
the first-ever medal won by a Sikkim shooter at the North East Zonal level.
The association congratulated Chettri and Bhutia on
their qualification and praised all participating athletes, coaches, officials,
parents and supporters for their contribution to the team's performance.
